With only three days to the kickoff 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC have become the first team to have a press conference to announce their changes in the team and to reveal their goal this season.
In the press conference held on Monday 9th October, 2023 at St Gerald’s Stadium VIP lounge in Lubaga, Uganda Martyrs confirmed the new CEO, coaches and their target this season.
After the departure of Ivor Sempa Kimbugwe who was the club’s CEO, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC confirmed Freda Ayerango as the new club’s CEO ahead of the new season.
Ayerango becomes the third CEO to lead Uganda Martyrs in the FUFA Women Super League and has already started her work at the club.
Upon her unveiling, ecstatic Ayerango promised to lead the club to success.
“I am very happy for this new and big step, it means a lot and requires teamwork and commitment to keep the team on top and also to help the team achieve more to make history,” stated Ayerango.
“I’m going to double the effort to make sure that we make Uganda Martyrs Women Football Club the best club it should always be. Our target this season is to win the league title and it means a lot to us in administration to achieve such a huge milestone. I will do my best together with the team to achieve it.”
The club president Brother Leonard Kasozi Nsubuga Gomba made it clear that the top club’s target is to win the league.
“We have been finishing in the top 3, and now our goal this season is to lift the trophy and we have all it takes to win the title,” said a confident Nsubuga.
After returning to Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC, coach Rogers Nkugwa is optimistic they have everything in place and this is their season to win the league.
“I have been here before, coming back means I have a mission to accomplish and that’s to lift the league title. I have 100% recruited new players myself and I believe we have a strong team to win the league,” said a hopeful Nkugwa.
The tactician also commented on his opening game against Kampala Queens FC this Sunday.
“We are going to Lugogo not just to play Kampala Queens but to collect maximum points as part of our plan to achieve our target this season,” concluded optimistic Nkugwa.
Rogers Nkugwa will be assisted by former league winner coach Rajab Buyinza while Derrick Kasumba is the goalkeeper coach.
Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC sold Patience Nabulobi, Esther Namusoke and Catherine Nagadya but they have made more than 5 new signings to strengthen the squad.
The FUFA Women’s Cup reigning champions signed goalkeeper Cecilia Kamuli from Tooro Queens, Ruth Nyakato from Tooro Queens, Shaminah Nakalyowa from Byafaayo Queens FC, Sharon Kanyiginya from Tooro Queens FC, Nabirah Nakitto and Shakirah Nagudi all from Asubo Ladies.
The Kiddawalime also promoted goalkeeper Catherine Namawejje, Catherine Nyiyonshuti, Nanvule Deborah and Comfort Achulu from the junior team.
The 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League campaign will start this Saturday, 14th October with UCU Lady Cardinals hosting Lady Doves in Mukono.
Uganda Martyrs will play their opening game of the season on Sunday 15th October against defending champions Kampala Queens FC at MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
