The Uganda U20 Women’s Football National Team, the Queen Cranes, secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against host nation Ghana on Friday night in a thrilling final match of Group A at the 2023 All Africa Games.
The Cape Coast Stadium encounter saw a determined Ugandan side take the lead early on through Captain Catherine Nagadya‘s strike within the first ten minutes.
However, Ghana’s Abdulai Mukrama equalized before halftime. Despite the draw, Uganda maintained their unbeaten record in the group stage, having won one game and drawn two.
With five points, they finished second in the group, two points behind Ghana. Both teams progressed to the semifinals.
Coach Sheryl Botes‘ side will now play Nigeria in the semifinals on Monday 18th, March, 2024 at Cape Coast Stadium and the winner will play either Ghana or Senegal in the final.
“We surely planned well for the game and the girls gave their best. In the second half, girls lost concentration maybe because they knew they had already qualified, but that’s not the kind of mentality we want as a technical team,” started Botes
“We are happy to reach the semifinals and our target is still on winning the tournament.” concluded happy Botes
