2023 All Africa Games: Queen Cranes Seek Crucial Win Against Ethiopia

The Uganda U20 Women Football National Team, the Queen Cranes, will be action against Ethiopia tonight in a critical Group A match at the ongoing 2023 All Africa Games in Ghana.

The 8:00 PM (EAT) kickoff at Cape Coast Stadium marks the second game for both teams in the group stage.

Currently sitting third in the standings, Uganda needs a victory over their CECAFA rivals, Ethiopia, to boost their chances of reaching the semifinals.

Uganda opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania, while Ethiopia fell narrowly to host nation Ghana by a score of 1-0.

Margret Kunihira scored for Uganda, with Aisha Juma Mnunka leveling matters for Tanzania while Comfort Owusu scored the only goal for Ghana against Ethiopia.

Speaking to the media, Uganda’s head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes expects nothing but a victory despite facing a tough opponent.

“Ethiopia is a very organized team. They keep the ball, use the wings but we have planned on how to contain them however much they’re tactically good.”

“We know what this game means to us and even the opponents but we go into it with one aim of winning it,” said optimistic Botes.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals while the last two will automatically be out of the championship.

Apollon Ladies star Juliet Nalukenge, who came on as a substitute in the final 20 minutes of the previous match, is likely to start tonight.
