The Uganda U20 Women’s Football National Team, the Queen Cranes, narrowly lost to Nigeria in the semifinals of 2023 All Africa Games.
On Monday night at Cape Coast stadium, defending champions Nigeria eliminated Uganda to reach the final after a close 2-0 victory.
Despite facing a strong opponent, the Queen Cranes held their own in the first half, keeping the score level thanks to two incredible saves by goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu.
However, Nigeria’s experience shone through in the second half. Okah Adaobi Judith broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu sealed the win with a goal in the 86th minute.
Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, Ghana stunned Senegal 3-1 to reach the final. Ophelia Amponsah‘s brace and a goal from Tracy Twum secured victory for the host nation, with Rokhyatou Kande scoring a consolation goal for Senegal.
The Queen Cranes will now turn their focus to the bronze medal match, where they will face Senegal on Thursday, March 21st, 2024. Ghana and Nigeria will battle it out in the final for the gold medal.
