2023 All Africa Games: Tanzania VS Uganda – Preview, Team News and Probable Lineup

The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team the Queen Cranes will be taking on neighbors Tanzania in the opening game of group A at the All Africa Games. The match is scheduled for 8PM (EAT) at Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana .

This match will not only be the first time Uganda participates in the African Games Women’s Football but will also be the first competitive game for head coach Sherly Ulanda Botes incharge of the Queen Cranes.

What they said

Speaking to media ahead of the Tanzania encounter, Botes said she is aware of the strength of the opponents.

“We are happy to be here in Ghana for this tournament, my team is ready and we have prepared them enough knowing what we’re going to face. All the teams who are part of this tournament are big teams and we must show top performance to reap positively.” She started.

“We have a strong team and everyone is capable of delivering what we expect from them. Tanzania is a strong team and being a CECAFA region team, makes them stronger, but we want to win games,” concluded Botes.

Queen Cranes captain Catherine Nagadya believes that they’ll overcome their opponents.

“All the teams competing in this tournament are top teams but we are very ready and eager to beat our opponents to set the momentum,” said a committed Nagadya.

Previous encouters

In the last meetings between the two sides, Uganda beat Tanzania 1-0 in the 2021 CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship thanks to Fauzia Najjemba‘s lone strike while in the recent 2023 CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship, Tanzania defeated Uganda 1-0 to win the title courtesy of Winifrida Gerald.

Queen Cranes striker Juliet Nalukenge last featured for any national team in the 2022 CECAFA Senior Challenge Championship in Njeru with Crested Cranes and makes a return after two full years.

Uganda is pitted in group A alongside the hosts Ghana, Tanzania and Ethiopia.
