The champions of Burundi Buja Queens, have brightened their chances of reaching the semifinals with a narrow 1-0 win over Yei Joint Stars on Monday afternoon at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Captain Asha Jafari‘s first half stunner was enough to hand the champions of Burundi a vital win.

Buja Queens dominated the game from the kick off but their best chance of the game came in the 35th minute when Teopister Situma dribbled past a defender, calmly beat the last defender and went for the far left corner but her shot went few inches from the goal.

Ten minutes later, Vivian Corazone played a well calculated through pass to find captain Asha Djafari who squeezed a powerful shot at the roof the net to put her side in the lead before the break.

In the second half, Teopister Situma had three more open chances to extend Buja’s lead but she carelessly wasted all the chances.

Yei Joint’s defender Jeska Simaya, fouled in a forbidden area and the referee awarded a penalty to Buja Queens but Teopister Situma was denied by the goalkeeper.

The best chance for Yei Join Stars came late in the second half when captain Mary Dawa played a long pass to to find Justine Kirega who calmly controlled the ball in the box, beat the defender with the second touch but her brilliant powerful shot kissed the crossbar and went out.

In the 88th minute, hungry Teopister Situma hit a powerful shot but was denied by a cross bar.

Referee Juma Lucy Awino blew the final whistle as Buja Queens registered their second and vital win in three games played so far.

Buja Queens now have 6 points, one behind leaders C.B.E FC and they’ll be looking at Kampala Queens game against FAD FC later in the evening and if Kampala Queens wins, Buja will only need a point in their last game against FAD FC which looks much possible since FAD FC looks to be a punching bag.

The top two teams from group A, will join JKT Queens and Vihiga Queens who have already stormed the semifinals from group B.
