Kenyan champions Vihiga Queens and Tanzanian champions JKT Queens, are the first two teams to reach the semifinals of the ongoing CAF Champions League Zonal Qualifiers.
JKT Queens defeated New Generation 1-0 to register their second win of the tournament that helped them to advance to the semifinals for the first time in their history.
Esther Mabanza‘s second half goal was enough to give JKT a slim but important win that sent them to the semifinals for the first time in their history.
It was all smiles at the final whistle as JKT Queens earned a well deserved win that later helped them reach the semifinals after AS Kigali‘s loss to Vihiga Queens in the evening.
Vihiga Queens have also reached the semifinals for their second time in history after a narrow 1-0 win over AS Kigali on Wednesday evening at MTN-Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
Bertha Omita scored the all important goal for Vihiga Queens in the first stanza of the game that they defended well to take the maximum points.
Martha Emedot sent a brilliant ball to Omita who clinically lobbed the goalkeeper to put Vihiga Queens in the lead.
Towards the end of the game, Vihiga Queens goalkeeper Ruth Aturo, made an unbelievable save to deny AS Kigali’s Kayitesi from scoring the equalizer.
The hard earned win, took Vihiga Queens to the top of the table with same points (6) with JKT Queens, hence both teams reaching semifinals.
With only one game to the end of group B, AS Kigali and New Generation, both have zero points and they can’t make it to out of the group.
Vihiga Queens and JKT Queens will meet on Saturday in the game that will determine the first and second team from group B.
The first and second teams from group A will face the second and the first teams from group B in the semifinals respectively.
