The 2023 Masaza Cup group stages came to an end on Sunday, September 3, 2023, with eight teams out of 18 advancing to the quarterfinals.
Buddu, Buvuma, Mawokota, Buweekula, Ssingo, Bulemeezi, Kyadondo, and Buvuma all secured their places in the next round.
Buddu needed only a win in their final group game against Buluuli to reach the quarterfinals, and they did not disappoint, winning 2-1.
Defender Paul Kilada put Buddu in the lead before Kerry Kusima equalized for Buluuli. Midfielder Pius Ssebulime restored the lead two minutes later, and his goal turned to theĀ winner.
Defending champions Busiro were knocked out of the tournament after losing 2-3 to Kabula.
Buweekula finished top of the Masengere group after thrashing Kooki 4-0, while Ssingo and Buvuma finished first and second in the Bulange group respectively.
Bulemeezi and Kyadondo qualified as the best losers, after finishing third in their respective groups.
The quarterfinals will be played this weekend, with Gomba hosting Ssingo, Buddu visiting Kyaddondo, undefeated Buweekula playing Bulemeezi, and Mawokota visiting Buvuma.
