2023 National Open Mini Qualifying Round: Top Players to Watch

The 2023 National Open Mini Qualifying Round is just two weekends away, and some of the top players in the country will be competing for a spot in the main event.

In Mukono, 2012 National Champion Alfred Gumikiriza will be playing at his own Blacksheep Arena.

Gumikiriza is a two-time runner-up in the National Open, and he is expected to qualify easily. Other top players in Mukono include Seed 13 Allan Kayiwa and Najib Matovu.

In Luwero, 2014 P.A.U Young Player of the Year Salim Akankwasa will be playing at Muroga Barracks Bar inside Bombo Military Headquarters.

Akankwasa is a two-time Senior League winner, and he will be a tough opponent for any player who faces him. Other top players in Luwero include Eria Ssali and Fahad Luyombya.

The Mityana-Mubende area will also be a hotbed of activity, with qualifying tournaments at several outlets.

Christopher Ssenteza will be the headline name at Skyline Pub, while Fahad Ntambi is expected to play at Half London bar.

Johnny Kamoga is the big name expected at Zifa Olaba bar, and Geoffrey Kalyango will again lead the Mubende qualifying campaign at Cares Bar.

There will also be qualifying centers in the Midwestern district of Masindi, and in Kampala at venues like Club Icon, Timeless Bar, DB-9, Nikki’s Bar, Akaanya, Bruno’s Bar, Tripple R, Big Zone, Capital Bar, Mityana Pub, Smoky Bar, Friends’ Corner, Bamboo Nest, Comrades, and Friends’ Pub.

The 2023 National Open Mini Qualifying Round is sure to be a hotly contested event, and it will be interesting to see who emerges as the top players in the country.
