One of Uganda’s most thrilling and competitive football tournaments, the FUFA Drum, has announced its official opening date. The tournament, organized by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), will kick off on August 24, 2024.
FUFA Chairman Rogers Byamukama has confirmed that the opening match will be hosted by Bugisu, setting the stage for an exciting clash with the opening fixture pitting Bugisu against Karamoja at Mbale Municipal Stadium.
The fixture will be one of the four preliminary matches played on a home-and-away basis. The winners of these matches will advance to join the previous edition’s quarterfinalists in the group stages.
In addition to the Bugisu-Karamoja match, the first round of peliminary fixtures will see Bunyoro face Rwenzori, Kampala take on Bukedi, and Ankole play Sebei.
A draw held earlier today determined the group compositions, pooling 3 provinces into 4 groups:
- Group A: West Nile, Acholi, and the winner of Bugisu/Karamoja
- Group B: Lango, Buganda, and the winner of Ankole/Sebei
- Group C: Busoga, Kigezi, Bunyoro/Rwenzori winner
- Group D: Teso, Toro, Kampala/Bukedi winner

FUFA Chairman Rogers Byamukama expressed pride in the tournament’s ability to reach every corner of Uganda and attract new sponsors like Pepsi. He emphasized the federation’s commitment to supporting participating teams by providing transportation, accommodation, and equipment.
Ernest Ssentongo, representing Pepsi, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with FUFA on this significant initiative.
“It is a pleasure to become part of this very important initiative, earlier we have been working with FUFA on different issues but we believe that this is the most important activity to join hands,” he said.
Since its inception in 2018, the FUFA Drum has consistently delivered exciting matches and unexpected results. With no team successfully defending the title, the competition promises to be even more intense this year.
