The 2024 FUFA Women’s cup returns on Wednesday afternoon with one game as defending champions Uganda Martyrs visits Lady Doves at Katusabe Playground in Masindi at 3:00 PM.
This knockout stage clash promises a tense battle as Uganda Martyrs strive to retain their title. The two sides have already met twice this season in the league, but both victories for Uganda Martryrs were narrow one-goal margins, indicating Lady Doves’ potential to cause an upset.
The last time Uganda Martyrs visited Lady Doves was on 4th November 2023 and the Kiddawalime narrowly defeated the Believers 1-0 at their home courtesy of Rebecca Nandhego‘s goal.
Can Lady Doves Overcome the Odds?
Lady Doves, however, enter the match on a high after defeating Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 3-2 in their previous league outing.
Reaching at this stage, Lady Doves ejected Mpororo Queens FC while Uganda Martyrs comfortably eliminated Entebbe Pride Women FC.
In the last six meetings in all competitions, Uganda Martyrs have defeated Lady Doves five times and lost once and a total of 21 goals have been scored in those meetings.
Speaking ahead of the game, Uganda Martyrs head coach Edward Kasozi Ssozi is hoping to progress to the next round.
”We are the defending champions; we have to make sure that we beat every opponent we face. All teams are strong, and we work extremely hard to overcome every opponent. Our aim is to first eliminate Lady Doves,” said Kasozi via club’s socials.
Uganda Martyrs will miss defender Stella Namisango who missed the last game against Kampala Queens while Lady Doves will be without Everine Nandera and midfielder Winnie Nabbale.
The winner between Lady Doves and Uganda Martyrs will face UCU Lady Cardinals in the quarterfinals.
