The 2024 FUFA Women’s cup returned today with one game as Lady Doves ejected defending champions Uganda Martyrs on penalties in a game played at Katusabe playground

Uganda Martyrs’ hopes of retaining their title were dashed after falling to Lady Doves. The match finished 1-1 in regular time, forcing a penalty shootout, which Lady Doves won 3-2.

Lady Doves had taken the lead through Resty Kobusobozi, but Uganda Martyrs fought back with an equalizer from Ruth Nyakato in the 73rd minute.

In the shoot out, Resty Kobusobozi and Norah Alupo of Lady Doves missed their spot kicks, but three successful conversions sealed their victory.

Brenda Munyana, Gloria Namugerwa, and captain Latifah Nakasi all missed for Uganda Martyrs, paving the way for Lady Doves’ advancement.

Lady Doves now face UCU Lady Cardinals in the quarterfinals, with the date yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Uganda Martyrs turn their focus to the FUFA Women Super League, where they visit Rines SS WFC on Sunday, April 21st, for matchday 15. Lady Doves will host Asubo Ladies FC on the same day.
