Buganda’s Central County Kyadondo opened their Airtel Masaza Cup 2024 on a promising note with a 1 – 0 win against Bugerere County.

After a stalemate in the first half, Isaac Ssenyunja’s second half thunderous curling shot was enough to separate the two sides in Gayaza and give Kyadondo all three points.

The game was played on hot evening infront of a big crowd which is been akin to norm in recent times of Kyadondo’s home matches.

Following the win, Kyadondo head coach Medi Nyanzi sent a serious message to their next opponent.

“Now the next mission is Buddu, I won’t give them any chance. I am going to prove to them how good we are.”

Kyadondo was on front foot from the get go and Bugerere goalkeeper Ashiraf Bwabye was the best player on his side while goal scorer Ssenyunja was the man of the match.

Other Masaza weekend fixtures

Elsewhere Kyaggwe picked a crucial win on the road against Gomba in their season opener through Ivan Kalyowa and Isaac Ofoyrwoth goals in a 2-0 win over record champions.

Mawogola also started on a positive note beating Kooki 1-0, Kabula overpowered Ssese 1-0. Busujju picked snatched a 1-0 away victory over Busiro.

Bugerere team

The only fixtures of the weekend which failed to produce a goal were; Buwekula and Ssingo plus Buvuma and Mawokota.

Earlier on Saturday Butambala defeated Buddu by 1-0.

What’s next?

Match day two on this weekend will feature eight games.

Bululi County will host Butambala, defending champions Bulemeezi will visit Bugerere, while Buddu shall entertain Kyadondo in Masaka.

Elsewhere, Ssingo will welcome Gomba, and Kooki shall host Buwekula. Off Jinja road, Kyaggwe will open their home journey against Mawogola.

Finally, Ssese will host Buvuma in a lake Nnalubaale derby. Busujju will be at home up against Kabula while Mawokota shall host Busiro.
