Having six teams per group, the 2024 Masaza Cup competition has been fierce, with each team playing five matches in the group stage’s first leg.
The weekend of July 27-28, 2024, marked matchday five for most teams, with Busiro and Buvuma scheduled to complete their fixtures on August 4th. A surprising trend emerged as five of the nine matches ended in goalless draws, with only four goals scored overall.
Saturday’s encounters between Butambala and Kyadondo at Kibibi SS, and Buvuma and Kabula at Magyo both ended in scoreless draws.
Sunday’s action saw seven matches, with the highlight being Buddu’s narrow victory over defending champions Bulemeezi at Kitovu in Bulange group. Pius Ssebulime‘s lone goal secured Buddu’s second win of the campaign and inflicted Bulemeezi’s fourth defeat.
In the same group, Bululi maintained their top spot with a 1-0 win over Bugerere at Ntenjeru. Robert Ssewanyana’s goal moved him level with Shaban Kayongo and Joseph Ssewaali ( both from Ssingo) on three goals each. Bululi leads the group with 11 points, followed by Bugerere and Buddu.
The Muganzirwazza group is proving to be the most exciting, with only two points separating the top three teams. Buweekula defeated Gomba at Kabulasoke through Sharafa Mukiibi‘s goal, while Kyaggwe capitalised on Ivan Kalyowa‘s goal to beat Kooki at Mukono Bishops.
In the other fixture, Ssingo played to a barren draw on road against Mawogola. Ssingo leads with 11 points, followed by Kyaggwe (10) and Buweekula (9).
The Masengere group also witnessed a low-scoring weekend, with three goalless draws. Kabula leads the group with 10 points, one point ahead of Busujju, with Mawokota in third place on six points.
