The 2024 Russian Women’s Premier League, known as Supreme Division Women, kicked off this past weekend and had Crested Cranes forward Fauzia Najjemba and midfielder Joan Nabirye in the spotlight.

Najjemba’s Dynamo Moscow stole the show, defeating hosts Krasnodar Women 2-0 at Krasnodar Stadium. Najjemba, the Ugandan star, played a pivotal role in the victory, earning two assists.

In the 25th minute, a foul on Najjemba inside the box resulted in a penalty, which Elina Samoilova coolly converted. Her influence continued in the 70th minute, outmaneuvering her marker to set up Kristina Komissarova whose shot doubled the lead.

The Crested Cranes striker nearly notched a third assist, but Komissarova’s header struck the woodwork. Krasnodar’s woes were compounded by a red card in the the closing stages.

The win propels Dynamo Moscow to 3rd place on the table. Their next challenge comes on March 16th against 2nd-placed Lokomotiv Moscow.

Nabirye Makes Debut as Spartak Moscow Falls Short

Meanwhile, Ugandan midfielder Joan Nabirye made her debut for Spartak Moscow on Saturday. The debut, however, was not ideal as Spartak fell 0-1 to Zenit in the season opener.

Nabirye’s team now sits in 10th position. They’ll look to bounce back against Ryazan, who are also winless, this coming Friday.
