- Uganda 50-53 Cameroon
Uganda’s Junior Silverbacks saw their title hopes at the 2025 FIBA U16 AfroBasket end after a narrow 53-50 quarterfinal loss to Cameroon on Friday at Petit Stade.
The defeat closed out Uganda’s historic first run to the knockout stages, earned after edging Morocco on point difference in the group phase. The team will now turn to classification games.
It was Uganda’s second meeting with Cameroon, who had beaten them 57-50 earlier in the tournament.
This time the Junior Silverbacks pushed harder but still fell short. Cameroon led 17-14 after the first quarter and stretched it to 30-20 at halftime.
Uganda fought back in the third, cutting the gap to 41-36, but the West Africans held on in the final minutes.
Shane Kwizera led Uganda with 19 points, while Evans Shyaka added 9. Cameroon’s Nolan Ngangmeni scored 16 and Olivier Ngoumou 11.
Despite the loss, Uganda’s campaign is still one to remember, highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance.
