With Ssingo and Buwekula set to face each other in the Plascon-sponsored Buganda Masaza Cup Finals, coaches from both sides have vowed to see themselves win the 2025 trophy.

Amidst the final preparations for the final at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, Buwekula’s assistant coach Davis Nono Ssozi said;

“We thank God that we have come this year. I am sure the boys are physically and mentally ready, good enough that we are scoring a lot of goals.” He said

Adding that; “We believe in ourselves and have to accomplish this mission positively. When they were winning their first trophy, it was Felix who did the anchor, and I believe he knows what to do again this time round.”

“We believe this is the right time for us to win this trophy; it is the time to pay back to our fans, therefore I invite them tomorrow to cheer us,” he concluded

On Ssingo’s side, Head Coach Bashir Bastu Ssemuyaba believes pedigree will be key in deciding the championship tomorrow,

“As a person, I have played Masaza, managed, and coached at all levels of Ugandan football. With my experience, I believe I can bring back the trophy to Ssingo, who have missed it for a while since we last won it. I believe in our players, coaches, and the incredible fans.”

Meanwhile, this year’s Masaza Cup top scorer, Jimmy Kalema, has sent a serious warning to Ssingo;

Jimmy Kalema.

“I am happy that this moment has come, playing my Masaza Cup last game against Ssingo, which stands as my home county. Despite this, I will not have mercy on them.”

“I have been looking to teach them that they have to stop overlooking players from Ssingo areas.” He added
“Tomorrow, it is going to be a nightmare for them. Good enough, we are the most scoring team, and to win games, you need to score because games are won by scoring.”

On the same cause, Ssingo captain Strike Shaban Kayongo has vowed, in the same line with his coach, stating;

“Last season our mission was this trophy, and it did not come. This time, we are here as the only successful team, and we are to use our pedigree. As players, we are ready to do anything; we only want this trophy.”

In the last training, Buwekula took the morning session that commenced at 10 am to 12 pm while Ssingo trained in the evening from 2 pm to 4pm.

Ssingo is the best team defensively, as they have only conceded 3 goals, thanks to the defensive lines that include Jackson Ssembatya, Johnathan Oluka, goalkeeper Joel Byamukama, and holding duo Ismail Lwamitala and Francis Ogwanga. Buwekula has conceded 7 goals so far.

Jimmy Kalema is the main scorer with 8 goals, while Shafiq Ssonko was another attacking threat in the Buwekula side, having four goals and a couple of assists. Ssingo has scored 14 goals, which is four fewer than Buwekula’s goal tally.

On paper, Ssingo is standing better as a team in terms of players, looking likely ahead of Buwekula in goalkeeping, defense, and midfield, while Buwekula is slightly better in going forward, playing on the counterattack.

In both coaching staffs, Buwekula is better with over 15 coaches on the team despite having big emerging names.

In contrast, Ssingo has around 7 coaches, but they may not have someone with the caliber of Hussein Mbalangu, the technical director of Ssingo.
