The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) has officially launched the 2025 National Pool Open Championship at a colorful ceremony held at Nile Breweries Headquarters in Luzira, promising the biggest and most competitive tournament in the country’s history.

Over 10,000 players are expected to compete in qualifiers across 320 centers nationwide, leading to a grand finale at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Sports officials, media, and representatives from the National Council of Sports attended the launch, signaling the start of an exciting journey for both players and fans.

PAU Chairman Bob Trubish described the championship as a celebration of the sport’s growth.

“The 2025 National Open is set to be the biggest in our history,” Trubish said.

“From grassroots qualifiers to the grand finale, this tournament gives thousands of players the chance to compete, dream big, and inspire future generations.”

The championship has produced some of Uganda’s finest stars, including Mansoor Bwanika (2024, 2018), Caesar Chandiga (2023), Fahad Ssewankambo (2017, 2014), and Sula Matovu (2016).

Defending champions Bwanika and Kisakye Marion will return to protect their titles in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

This year’s qualifiers will be extensive and inclusive. Men’s qualifiers will start at 320 centers before narrowing down to 40 regional hubs, while women’s qualifiers begin at nine regional centers. The top 128 men and 32 women will secure spots in the grand finale in Kampala.

Winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will each drive away with a brand-new car, alongside cash prizes, pool tables, and other rewards.

“This is the stage for players to showcase their skill and determination,” Trubish added.

“We call on fans across Uganda to follow the journey and make this the most memorable championship yet.”
