  • City Oilers 80-78 Sommet

The City Oilers showed their championship grit Friday night, rallying late to beat the Sommet Spartans 80–78 and level their National Basketball League semifinal series at 1–1.

Before a packed Lugogo Indoor Arena, the eight-time defending champions shook off a slow start and a double-digit deficit to keep their title defense alive.

Sommet, fresh off an 86–74 Game One win, looked ready for another upset. The Spartans led 22–18 after the first quarter, 42–39 at halftime, and 59–54 heading into the final period.

But the Oilers wouldn’t break. Lockdown defense and crisp shooting fueled a furious finish, capped by a two-point escape that reignited their push for a ninth straight crown.

Jordan Bowie Chad led the charge with 25 points, while Kurt Wegscheider added 18 and Titus Lual 12.

Kasereka Tembo paced Sommet with 23 points, backed by Nyebo Fataki’s 13 and John Focus Teko’s 11.

The best of five series now heads to a pivotal Game Three, with both teams fighting for control in an already electric matchup.
