NBL Playoffs | Men | SF | Game 3
- City Oilers 79-63 Sommet
City Oilers erupted in the fourth quarter to beat Sommet Basketball Club 79–63 and move within one win of the National Basketball League finals on Sunday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The defending champions spent much of the night chasing the game. John Focus Teko’s late free throw gave Sommet a 22–20 edge after the first period, and the underdogs carried a 42–38 lead into halftime.
Sommet kept control in the third quarter, stretching the gap to 59–54 behind Nyembo Fataki (19 points), Kasereka Tembo (16) and Peter Cheng (11). The crowd sensed an upset.
Then the Oilers flipped the script. They opened the final stanza with a ruthless 22–0 run, smothering Sommet defensively while finding their offensive groove. By the buzzer, a five-point deficit had turned into a 16-point statement win.
Jordan Chad Bowie and Kurt Curry Wegscheider scored 19 points each, with Mer Maker adding 14 in a balanced attack.
Coach Andrew Tendo called the victory a relief. “You don’t want to be 2–1 down,” he said.
“Game Three is always pivotal, it shifts the pressure. We just made the right adjustments and stayed composed.”
The Oilers now need one more victory to book another trip to the NBL Finals.
