  • City Oilers 79-70 Sommet

City Oilers Basketball Club are back where they belong another National Basketball League final. The reigning champions punched their ticket to an 11th straight title series with a composed 79–70 win over Sommet Basketball Club at a packed YMCA Court on Friday night.

The Oilers started fast. Mer Maker and Kurt Wegscheider attacked the rim early, powering their side to a 31–18 first-quarter lead capped by a slick Wegscheider layup.

Sommet refused to fade. Fataki Nyembo’s free throws cut the deficit to 45–38 at halftime and a spirited third-quarter surge pulled them within three at 53–50, igniting the crowd. But the effort drained their legs.

Sensing the shift, the Oilers steadied. Maker’s inside work stretched the lead back to double digits, and they carried a 71–59 cushion into the final quarter.

The last five minutes turned scrappy missed shots and turnovers on both ends but the champions never lost control.

Maker led all scorers with 23 points, Wegscheider added 20, and Chad Bowie chipped in 19. Sommet’s Peter Cheng (14), Nyembo (13), and Mark Ngobi (12) battled hard but couldn’t match the Oilers’ finish.

The victory keeps City Oilers on course for an 11th straight league crown, a dynasty that continues to define Ugandan basketball but this time after one season will face Uganda’s Road To BAL representatives Namuwongo Blazers in a best of seven Final.
