- UCU Canons 79-52 Kampala Rockets
Joel Kayira says UCU Canons must push even harder in the decisive clash after they bounced back with a 79-52 win over Kampala Rockets in Game Two of the National Basketball League quarterfinals at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday night.
Coming into this game, the boys from Mukono had suffered four defeats in the last five matches against Kampala Rockets, however this one was different.
“We admit the record hasn’t been great, they are a very good team, like you know they beat us in Game One, but we managed to come out victorious today,” Kayira said after leading the Canons with 16 points.
“We worked so hard out there, and in Game Three we’ve got to double our efforts.”
The Canons started strong, taking a 28-16 lead in the first quarter, sealed by Marvin Jesse Okurut’s driving layup. By halftime, Alier Pech Lier Jongoor’s perfect free throws stretched the gap to 45-25.
UCU never let up, pushing the margin to 63-36 heading into the final quarter. The Rockets, led by Puati Ozias Kikomba with 10 points and 11 rebounds, tried to fight back but couldn’t match the Canons’ pace and defensive pressure.
The win levels the series 1-1, setting up a winner-takes-all Game Three.
