  • JKL Lady Dolphins 46-57 UCU Lady Canons

UCU Lady Canons struck first in the National Basketball League semifinals, beating defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins 57-46 in Game One of the best of five series at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Wednesday night.

The spotlight belonged to Shillah Lamunu, who powered the Canons with a double double of 8 points and 12 rebounds.

More than her numbers, she set the tone, controlling tempo, dominating the glass, and relentlessly driving at the Dolphins’ defense.

She got key support from Hajara, who chipped in 10 points. For JKL, Hope Akello’s 11 points couldn’t ignite a comeback, as the champions looked out of rhythm for most of the game.

UCU’s defensive intensity proved decisive. They outrebounded JKL 54-47, grabbed 14 steals, and blocked two shots, disrupting the Dolphins’ flow all night.

The Canons struggled from three (4 of 27) but made up for it inside the arc, hitting 20 of 38.

JKL had an even rougher shooting night, just 13 of 37 inside and 3 of 29 from deep, leaving them with plenty to fix before Game Two.

The series continues Friday, October 3, at YMCA Court, where the Dolphins will look to level the score.
