2025 NBL Playoffs: Namuwongo Blazers level series, Keep title hopes alive

Namuwongo Blazers kept their National Basketball League title dreams alive with a hard-fought 71–64 win over defending champions City Oilers in Game Four of the Finals on Friday night at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The victory, their second in a row tied the best of five series at 2–2, setting up a thrilling winner takes all Game Five as the Blazers chase their first ever championship.

After dropping the opening two games, Namuwongo showed remarkable fight to claw back into contention. 

Veteran guard Tonny Drileba sparked the comeback with an early three-pointer that ignited the Blazers’ roaring fans. 

Still, the Oilers edged the first quarter 18–14, with Kurt Wegscheider closing it out with a smooth jumper.

Both sides locked in defensively in the second quarter, and City Oilers carried a slim 26–24 lead into halftime after limiting Namuwongo to just eight points. 

But the Blazers returned from the break with renewed energy, turning up the pace to lead 47–42 by the end of the third quarter.

The Oilers rallied late, but Namuwongo’s composure and hustle down the stretch sealed the seven point win. 

Drileba led the charge with 15 points, backed by Ivan Muhwezi (11) and Joel Lukoji (10).

For the Oilers, Chad Bowie (21) and Kurt Curry (20) carried the scoring load, but it wasn’t enough to prevent back to back defeats.
