- UCU Lady Canons Vs KIU Rangers – 7 PM
Sommet Basketball Club head coach Albert Aciko is backing his team to deliver as they gear up for a tough National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs showdown against the KCCA Panthers this Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Sommet, seeded third, will face KCCA in a fiery three-game series. Despite losing both regular-season meetings, Aciko believes his team is ready to flip the script.
“The bootcamp has been great. The break gave us time to put in the work,” Aciko said.
“We’ve seen improvement across different positions, and I’m excited to see the players compete. The series won’t be easy, but we’re ready.”
Aciko acknowledged KCCA’s strength but remains confident his side has learned from past mistakes.
“KCCA is a tough team, no doubt. We lost to them twice, so we have to be more aggressive,” he said.
“I’m happy with the manpower I have and I trust my players. We only lost two games in the second round, so my confidence is high.”
A key boost for Sommet is the return of Frank Nyembo from the AfroBasket tournament, where he represented DR Congo. Aciko believes his energy and experience could be decisive.
“Frank is a big piece for us,” Aciko said.
“He’s picked up right where he left off and brings energy on both ends of the court. He could give us the edge we need.”
The coach credited the league break for helping his team sharpen their defense, improve offensively, and build better chemistry.
“This break allowed us to lock in mentally and physically,” Aciko explained. “We’ve worked on defense, offense, and team cohesion. It has helped us a lot.”
Aciko also called on fans to pack Lugogo and create an electric atmosphere.
“Please come and fill up Lugogo and make it as loud as possible,” he urged.
“Your favorite players will be out there. Expect top-notch basketball from Sommet.”
Before the men’s clash, the night begins with a thrilling women’s matchup as the KIU Rangers take on defending champions UCU Lady Canons at 7 PM.
