  • City Oilers 74-86 Sommet

Sommet Basketball Club landed the first blow of the National Basketball League semifinals, beating record champions City Oilers 86–74 in a gripping Game 1 at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Tuesday night.

The win gave Sommet a 1–0 lead in the best of five series and signaled real trouble for the Oilers’ dynasty.

Sommet opened fast, with John Focus Teko finishing the first quarter with a driving layup for a 25–22 edge.

The Oilers regrouped and tied it 44–44 at halftime after Joseph Chuma’s late basket fired up the crowd.

The third quarter proved decisive. Sommet’s tight defense and sharp ball movement held the Oilers to just 13 points while stretching the lead to nine. The champions never recovered, shooting a miserable 6-for-33 from deep.

Peter Cheng powered Sommet with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Fataki Nyembo and Mark Ngobi added 18 and 17 points.

Kurt Wegscheider led the Oilers with 19 points and 10 boards, while Chad Bowie (13) and Fayed Baale (11) chipped in.

Game 2 is set for Friday, September 19, again at Lugogo, where Sommet will look to tighten their grip and the Oilers will fight to even the series.
