NBL Playoffs Third Place

  • UCU Canons 70-60 Sommet

UCU Canons closed their 2025 National Basketball League season on a high note, beating Sommet Spartans 70–60 in a tense third-place playoff on Tuesday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The Canons showed composure and experience in a game that swung both ways before they took control in the final quarter.

The win capped a solid season for UCU, while Sommet wrapped up a remarkable debut campaign in fourth place.

Sommet started brightly, edging a two-point lead in the opening quarter. But UCU’s tight zone defense forced them into long-range shots, with Kasereka Tembo’s two three-pointers keeping Sommet within reach. By halftime, UCU had pulled ahead by six.

Sommet fought back in the third quarter, with Mark Ngobi’s late layup leveling the game at 44–44 before they grabbed a slim one-point lead entering the final stretch.

However, UCU’s calm under pressure proved decisive. Led by Daniel Muganzi (18 points), Flore Dushime (15), and Alier Pech (12), the Canons pulled away to seal a well-earned victory.

Ngobi (17 points), Peter Cheng (14), and Tembo (12) led Sommet’s resistance, but UCU’s game management made the difference when it mattered most.
