Makerere Impis edged Victoria Sharks 24–19 in a thrilling Uganda Cup clash at the Graveyard on Saturday, with Henry Nsekuye’s calm boot proving the difference.
The hosts struck early when Edwin Muhumuza pounced on a rebound after Darren Aine’s penalty attempt hit the post.
But the Sharks responded strongly, scoring two converted tries to lead by nine at halftime.
Despite losing Brian Ngabo and Matthew Musasizi to brief medical checks, the Impis stayed composed.
Nsekuye led the second-half fightback with three penalties and a conversion, while Derrick Tumukunde and Musasizi crossed the line to swing the game in Impis’ favor.
The Sharks managed a late consolation try, but it wasn’t enough to stop the spirited Impis from sealing a hard-earned victory and advancing to the next round.
Elsewhere, Heathens crushed Kitgum Lions 57–6 while Kobs posted the weekend’s biggest win, hammering Fort Portal Tyrants 102–3.
Buffaloes blanked Kakira 17–0, Rhinos eased past Gulu City Falcons 20–0, and Jinja Hippos demolished Mbale Rugby Club 78–0.
Kigezi Silverbacks claimed a 20–0 walkover win against Walukuba Barbarians, while Black Pirates kept their good run going with a 26–10 victory over Rams RUFC in Kampala.
