The Uganda Hockey League 2025 season promises an action-packed calendar, one that will bring together top teams from across the country in a battle for supremacy.
With fixtures released and draws held at the Sideline restaurant in Lugogo on Saturday morning, games will span for several months, and both the men’s and women’s divisions will get to see intense matchups, setting the stage for a dramatic title race that will kick off on Saturday, March 1.
We shall get to see some thrilling opening fixtures that are expected to set the tone for the season.

In the men’s division, WSC Wabalozi faces Thunders (1 pm), while the women’s league begins with a highly anticipated clash between Makerere and Wananchi HDF (2:30 pm).
Other key opening day fixtures will include:
- Men: Weatherhead Vs Rockets – 4:00 pm
- Women: WHC Diamonds Vs Wannachi – 5:15pm
The action will continue on Sunday, March 2, morning with three Men fixtures and two for the women;
Kicking off with the women’s side Weatherhead faces Deliverance Church at 11 am right before the Men’s team WHC Titans faces Badgers at 12:30 pm.
Before Kampala take on Thunders (Women – 2 pm) and later on two men fixtures that will see Makerere play KHC Originals at 3:30 pm with Wananchi vs. Kampala at 5 pm.
Throughout the season, hockey fans can expect fierce battles between the top teams. Some standout fixtures to watch will include:
A historical rivalry that always delivers intense competition will see Men’s defending champions Wananchi face tough opposition as they take on Weatherhead on March 30, one that won’t be any different in the women
Kampala vs. Makerere (Men & Women) – A showdown between two teams with passionate fan bases.
Whereas on the Women’s side Kampala Swans, and Wananchi on March 16th in a crucial match that could determine the league standings from the point of start.
From a whole round picture, Wananchi will enter the new season as the team to beat after dominating the 2024 National Hockey League, winning both the men’s and women’s titles.
Wananchi’s Janet Nakato finished as the Women’s League top scorer with 27 goals while Kampala Swans’ Winnie Alaro was named the player of the season on the Women’s side.
In the 2024 Men’s League, Jordan Achaye stood out as the leading goal scorer with 30 goals, while Kampala Stallions’ Jordan Mpima was recognized as the season’s best player.
In addition to the league, teams will compete in the Uganda Cup, adding another layer of excitement to the season.
The Cup competition will feature multiple rounds, with teams advancing based on performance.
The Men will hold four to win the trophy while the Women three as per the first round of draws held both in the men’s and Women’s Pots.

Wananchi secured the 2024 Uganda Cup in the men’s category while Kampala Swans continued their dominance in the women’s competition becoming the first team to successfully defend the title.
