Uganda Cranes return to action tonight at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, aiming to build on their 4-0 win over Mozambique when they face Somalia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The victory on Friday lifted Uganda to second place in Group G with 12 points, level with Mozambique and six behind leaders Algeria.
Beating bottom-placed Somalia, who have just one point from seven matches, would strengthen the Cranes’ chances of reaching their first-ever World Cup.
Despite Somalia’s poor record, head coach Paul Put has warned his players against complacency.
“We played well against Mozambique, but that’s history,” Put said.
“We must respect Somalia and prepare for a tough game. There are no easy matches in Africa, and we need to get the job done.”
Put also called on fans to fill Namboole and rally behind the team.
“I urge all Ugandans to come and support us. We need to be 12 versus 11 so we can celebrate together,” he added.
Uganda’s qualification hopes could also benefit if Guinea manage another upset against Algeria in Morocco tonight.
With both Uganda and Mozambique pushing for wins, Group G could tighten up heading into the final two rounds.
Kickoff is at 7 pm EAT under the Namboole floodlights, as Uganda fight to keep their World Cup dream alive.
