In a major step toward strengthening sports governance in Uganda, the National Council of Sports (NCS) has gazetted 45 national sports federations and associations as compliant under the National Sports Act, Cap. 151, and the 2025 Regulations.
Published under General Notice No. 1754 of 2025 in The Uganda Gazette, the list confirms that these federations have applied for formal registration and are being considered for official recognition through Certificates of Registration.
The move follows the enforcement of the 2025 Regulations, which require all sports bodies to meet specific standards in governance, finance, and administration to qualify for government recognition and funding.
Federations gazetted as compliant include: Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Uganda Athletics Federation, Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations, Uganda Rugby Union, Netball Uganda, Uganda Boxing Federation, Uganda Golf Union, Cricket Uganda, Uganda Volleyball Federation and the Uganda Paralympic Committee.
The list also features emerging and lesser-known sports, reflecting Uganda’s growing sporting landscape.
These include the Uganda Zurkhaneh Sports Association, American Football Federation of Uganda, Uganda Dancesport Federation, VX Uganda, Uganda Dragon Boat Federation, and the Kabaddi Federation of Uganda.
NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel noted that the gazetting also opens a 30-day window for the public to raise any objections, a move aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
This is expected to improve funding, enhance international participation and promote better management of sports across the country as Uganda gears up for a packed calendar of local and international events.
