Eras come and go and Sport is one sector that points out that so well with the limited terms you serve in a given office thus Cricket being no exception.
To be more clearer, the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has ushered in a new chapter of leadership following its Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Kavuma Jackson was elected as chairman beating off competition from Fred Lutaaya by Four (4) votes (10-6)
Kavuma replaced Micheal Nuwagaba who has been the Chairman for the last Four years since being elected into office in May 2021.

Joining him at the helm is Denis Musali who has slotted straight into a position that was held by Kavuma the Honorary Secretary and alongside him will be Lelia Namaganda Ondeko who has been the U19 Girls Team Manager now as Women’s representative.
With their victory comes an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening governance, expanding cricket beyond schools, and securing financial stability for the sport.
Kavuma’s Vision: A bold step towards progress
In his post-election address, Kavuma expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and laid out his plans for Uganda’s cricketing future.
“First and foremost, I thank the Almighty for giving me this opportunity and the delegates who have entrusted me with this mandate. My goal is to elevate Uganda to ODI status and improve cricket as a whole,” he stated.
Despite acknowledging the challenges ahead including financial accountability concerns and governance issues, Kavuma exuded optimism.
He emphasized that the first priority would be ensuring compliance with the new sports law, which requires aligning UCA’s constitution with government regulations.
“In the first two months, we must focus on compliance with the new sports law so that by April or May, our constitution is fully aligned. Governance and accountability are key,” he affirmed.
Financial transparency was a hot topic during the AGM, with the association’s UGX 800 million deficit raising concerns.
Kavuma assured stakeholders that accountability would be a cornerstone of his leadership, encouraging constructive criticism.
“This is a public office, not an individual one. We uphold integrity and welcome positive critique. Hold us accountable where necessary,” he urged.
Beyond governance, Kavuma’s focus is on broadening cricket’s reach beyond schools. He highlighted initiatives such as the Corporate League, Mini Corporate League, and social cricket, aiming to introduce the sport to professionals and the general public.
With the $5.5 million sponsorship deal from Lyca Mobile, the largest in UCA’s history alongside backing from Nile Breweries, Dream Catchers, and private benefactors, financial support is stronger than before.
Kavuma believes that these funds, if managed well, will help Uganda achieve its cricketing goals.
His immediate priorities include overseeing the Tanzania U19 team’s visit, the upcoming Independence Day women’s tournament, and ensuring Uganda’s U19 team is prepared for qualifiers in Nigeria at the end of the month.
Musali’s Take: Strengthening relationships and growth
Newly elected Honorary Secretary Denis Musali echoed Kavuma’s sentiments, emphasizing teamwork and stability within the executive committee.
“One thing we must do is ensure a good relationship between the chairman and the secretary. We must work together rather than assert power over each other,” Musali stated.
He acknowledged past tensions within the UCA leadership but emphasized a fresh start based on collaboration.
“We want to avoid the power struggles that characterized previous administrations. Our goal is unity and progress,” he added.
Musali also stressed the importance of leveraging his experience and connections to elevate Ugandan cricket, recognizing the progress made by the previous administration.
“Michael and his team have done well over the last four years in building a foundation. Our job is to take the game to the next level,” he concluded.
A united front for the future of Ugandan Cricket
With Kavuma at the helm, Musali managing the association’s affairs, and Namaganda Ondeko advocating for women’s cricket, the new UCA leadership has a strong team to drive progress.
Their immediate focus will be on governance reforms, expanding cricket participation, and ensuring financial accountability, all while preparing Uganda for greater international success.
As Kavuma put it: “For me, it’s about principle. We must uphold integrity, welcome good criticism, and work towards taking cricket in Uganda to the next level.”
