- Tornado Bees: 88/9 in 20 overs (Anas Baig 20, Cyrus Kibukamudoke 3/16)
- Aboojo CC: 90/6 in 16 overs (Pascal Murunji 26, Brian Asaba 13)
- Aboojo won by 4 wickets
Aboojo Cricket Club delivered a clinical performance to overpower Tornado Bees by four wickets in a low-scoring affair in the UCA Men’s 50 Over League Division One, chasing down a modest target of 89 with four wickets in hand and four overs to spare.
A reduced over match, played on Sunday under overcast skies of the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe, began with Tornado Bees opting to bat first, a decision they would soon regret.
Struggling to find momentum right from the start, Tornado Bees were restricted to just 88 runs in their 20 allotted overs. Roger Mukasa fell early for just 2, bowled by the disciplined Mathew Musinguzi, setting the tone for a stuttering innings.
Anas Baig (20) and Munir Ismail (17) offered some resistance, but no batsman managed to build a meaningful innings. The lower middle order collapsed under relentless pressure, with only brief cameos from Jeremy Kibukamusoke (10) and Emmanuel Rwothomio (4*) helping the team limp to 88/9.
Aboojo’s bowlers were disciplined and relentless. Baguma Joseph and Lindon Mutengesa led the charge with two wickets each while Mathew Musinguzi and Enock Kasaija maintained tight lines, conceding just 13 and 10 runs respectively in their full spells.
In reply, Aboojo’s chase wasn’t entirely smooth. They lost opener Amos Ahura early for 4, and soon after, Pascal Murungi (26) and Ivan Thawithemwira fell in quick succession, leaving the score at 43/3.
But just when Tornado Bees sensed an opening, Aboojo’s middle order steadied the ship. Innocent Mwebaze played a crucial unbeaten knock of 22 off 14 balls, injecting calm and control into the chase. Mathew Musinguzi’s steady hand at the other end helped see Aboojo over the line in 16 overs, closing at 90/6.
Cyrus Kibukamusoke starred with the ball for Tornado Bees, claiming 3/16 in his 3 overs, while Munir Ismail picked up 2/18. However, their valiant efforts weren’t enough to defend the modest total.
Elsewhere in the UCA Men’s 50-Over League Division One, JACC defeated Rounders by 44 runs in a rain-shortened encounter. The fixtures between Kutchi Tigers vs. Ceylon Lions and Wanderers vs. Avengers were both abandoned due to wet weather.
