Active Fitness Club (AFC) has once again claimed the top spot at the International Taekwondo Heroes Cup, securing a resounding victory over Prisons Taekwondo Club. The Kitgum-based powerhouse amassed an impressive 482 points, establishing a dominant lead of over 300 points against the runner-up.

AFC’s triumph marks a successful defense of their 2023 title. The club’s exceptional performance, highlighted by 34 gold, 20 silver, and 14 bronze medals across junior and senior divisions, propelled them to the championship.

AFC head coach, Robinson Okello, attributed the team’s success to early and dedicated preparation. “We began training well in advance and collaborated closely with schools to accommodate training in our players’ academic schedules,” Okello said.

Uganda Prisons, competing solely in the senior division, secured second place with 143 points, including 10 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Tororo Taekwondo Club finished third with 60 points, followed by Sharing with 28 points and UCU Mbale with 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. Four teams failed to win any medals.

The tournament served as a crucial selection event for the Uganda Taekwondo team to compete in the East African Championship in late August.

International Taekwondo Federation president in Uganda, David Owori, praised the competition, stating, “It was an outstanding two-day event with nine teams. AFC’s dominance was evident. We successfully observed around 30 potential athletes for the East African Championship in Zanzibar. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, Uganda will only participate in that event and not the World Cup in Argentina.”
