Africa Cup Of Nations 2025 | Tuesday December 23 | Group C
- Tunisia 3-1 Uganda
- Nigeria 2-1 Tanzania
Mohamed Elyes Achouri was the difference on a rain-soaked night in Rabat, scoring twice as Tunisia opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a composed 3–1 win over Uganda to top Group C.
Relentless rain greeted the teams at the Stade Olympique de Rabat, but Tunisia settled quickly.
Clad in all white, the Carthage Eagles moved the ball with confidence and pressed high, forcing Uganda, in red and missing injured defender Ellio Capradossi, into a cautious start.
The pressure paid off early. Uganda goalkeeper Salim Jamal held firm at first, denying Ferjani Sassi, but a corner inside 10 minutes proved costly.
Ellyes Skhiri found space and headed home, a goal that reflected Tunisia’s early control.
Uganda grew into the game, with Rogers Mato and Toby Sibbick providing width and Jude Ssemugabi showing intent.

Still, Tunisia’s defence remained untroubled, with Hannibal Mejbri dictating play from midfield.
Five minutes before the break, Achouri struck. Ali Abdi’s cross from the left found the winger in space, and he finished calmly to double Tunisia’s lead, punishing a moment of hesitation at the back.
After the restart, Uganda searched for a response, introducing Denis Omedi and Travis Mutyaba, but Tunisia stayed patient.

Just after the hour, Achouri pounced again, reacting quickest after Jamal parried Abdi’s shot to make it 3–0 and put the result beyond doubt.
Uganda kept pushing. Teenager James Bogere made his AFCON debut, and Jamal produced a few more saves.
In stoppage time, Omedi grabbed a consolation, his effort deflecting past the Tunisian goalkeeper.

By then, the story was already written. Achouri’s sharp movement and calm finishing defined a professional Tunisian display, while Skhiri, commanding throughout, earned the man of the match award.
Tunisia move top of Group C on goal difference and now turn to a heavyweight clash with Nigeria in Fes.
Uganda must reset quickly ahead of their meeting with Tanzania, knowing sharper execution will be required to keep their campaign alive.
Earlier, Samuel Bright Ajayi struck first and Ademola Look man sealed it as Nigeria began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a calm 2–1 win over Tanzania on Tuesday night in Fes, Morocco.
