AFCON 2025: Bogere makes cut as youngest player to feature in Cranes final AFCON squad

With Uganda Cranes filled with a big number of Africa Cup of Nations debutants, James Bogere tops the highlights as he is named in the final squad for AFCON 2025.

At 17, the El Cambio product continues to rise from grace to the limelight after tearing nets at the U17 World Cup in Qatar to becoming the baby of the senior team in Morocco and the youngest Ugandan to be included in the AFCON Squad.

With the squad having only five members from Uganda’s last AFCON Finals appearance in 2019, experienced players Denis Onyango, Goalkeeper Jamal Salim, Defender Timothy Awany, Isaac Muleme, and Khalid Aucho who captained the team through qualifiers and are likely to continue in that role.

The squad is under experienced Coach Paul Joseph Put and out of the 28 players announced, 23 await the opportunity to make their debuts, including another young star, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza after dropping two home players in goal keeper Charles Lukwago and midfielder cum right back David Owori.

The announcement comes six days to Uganda Cranes’ first game of the tournament, where they will face Tunisia on December 23 before squaring off with Tanzania and Nigeria in the last two games of Group C.
