Battered but unbowed, Cameroon held their composure to beat South Africa 2-1 in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Indomitable Lions now face hosts Morocco in Friday’s quarter-final at Stade Moulay Abdellah.
South Africa dominated the first 30 minutes, pressing high and creating chances that tested goalkeeper Davis Epassy. Cameroon bent under pressure but never broke.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Junior Tchamadeu seized his moment to put Cameroon ahead.
Two minutes after the restart, Christian Kofane doubled the lead with a calm diving header, giving Cameroon control of the match.
South Africa fought back, and Evidence Makgopa’s 87th-minute goal sparked a tense finish. But Epassy and a disciplined defence held firm, sealing Cameroon’s win.
Cameroon were dominated at times but decisive when it counted, showing resilience, focus, and efficiency.
They now turn their attention to Morocco in a quarter-final showdown that promises more drama.
