Playmaker Aaron Ofoywroth delivered in grand fashion on the second weekend of the Africa 7s to give Uganda her fourth Africa 7s title.
Uganda defeated South Africa in the final of the second edition of the Africa 7s courtesy of an extra-time try through Aaron Ofoywroth.
With Uganda down 15-17 and the clock in red, Aaron Ofoywroth kept marshalling Uganda’s forward and a penalty in South Africa saw Aaron score from the base of the resultant scrum after selling a dummy out wide.
The win confirmed immortal status for the Rugby Cranes in Mauritius having gone through both weekends of Rugby 7s fight without a loss. During the first round, Uganda defeated Madagascar in the final. Uganda had earlier won the title on the mathematics of attainable points, and the win in the final confirmed a perfect unbeaten run to glory.
Uganda and Madagascar will now represent Africa in the 2025 Challenger Series, with 2026 HSBC SVNS roster spots on the line.
Courtesy of Uganda’s win in Mauritius, Coach Tolbert Onyango and his most loyal soldiers Phillip Wokorach and Adrian Kasito are four-time Africa 7s Champions.
Coach Tolbert, Kasito, and Wokorach have been part of all four Ugandan winning sides i.e. 2016 (Nairobi), 2017 (Kampala), 2022 (Kampala), and now 2024 (Mapou).
