The Uganda men’s 7s team defeated Cote d’Ivoire 15-10 in the opening knockouts/quarterfinals fixture on day two of the Rugby Africa Men’s 7’s.
Uganda scored three uncoverted tries with the winner coming in sudden death. Uganda opened their account of the day through Denis Etwau who scored out wide to complete a remarkable move.
Uganda thought they had doubled their advantage after a coast-to-coast ended in the hands of captain Ian Munyani to score, only to be called back in the 22 for a high tackle. Cote d’Ivoire would score out in the corner n the ensuing possession to end the half level at 5-5.
The introduction of Aaron Ofoywroth’s industry paid off with the playmaker dotting down to start Uganda’s exploits of the second half.
The Cranes would then be on the defense, trying to keep the West Africans but a yellow card to Adrian Kasito opened a gap outside for the Ivorians to level matters again, and level the scores 10-10 at full time.
Uganda claimed the kickoff in sudden death and were soon on the hunt for the winning score. A couple of infringements later and offsides from the Ivorians saw them reduced to 6, before Philip Wokorach sold two quick dummies out wide to score the winner for Uganda, ending the game at 15-10.
Uganda will now play South Africa A, whodefeated Kenya Morans 12-07 courtesy of two second half tries.
