The Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens have reigned supreme in Mauritius on the first weekend of the 2024 Africa 7s.
Uganda were crowned champions after defeating Madagascar 31-12 in the finale, courtesy of five tries, and finishing the weekend unbeaten.
Vice captain Aaron Ofoywroth opened the onslaught with a try in the corner. A minute later, the Rugby Cranes were over for the second score, on the opposite side of the line, through Adrian Kasito after a sweet switch move with Philip Wokorach. The later converted to extend Uganda’s lead to 12-00.
The Cranes would be caught flat footed as Madagascar kicked behind the high defense line and followed through to score. Aaron Ofoywroth scored his second of the final to make sure Uganda had the last say in the half, pushing the game to 17-05 at the break.
To start the second half, Madagascar came out of the gates with a clean kickoff reclamation to score right below the posts and reduce the gap to 17-12. It was all Uganda from there on as the Cranes added two converted tries through Norbert Okeny and Timothy Kisiga, winning 31-12.
Uganda have put themselves in prime position with the win, going into next weekend, with the hope to win a fourth African title very much on the cards.
