2025 African Netball Cup
- Uganda 46-45 Kenya
Uganda’s She Cranes opened their African Netball Cup campaign with a tense 46–45 victory over Kenya at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Uganda kept a narrow lead throughout, taking the first quarter 14–7 and going into halftime 23–18.
Kenya fought back after the break, trimming the gap to just two goals by the final quarter, but the She Cranes stayed composed to finish one goal ahead.
Shadia Nassanga, Racheal Nanyonga, Magret Shaddy, Lilian Achola, Shafy Nalwanja and Gloria Aya led Uganda’s charge with disciplined play, working well across the court and responding calmly to Kenya’s physical style.
Kenya’s shooter Ireen Anyango was named Player of the Match after a standout performance that kept Uganda under constant pressure.
The win puts Uganda in a good early position in Pool 2, which also includes Zimbabwe and Namibia. Zimbabwe beat Namibia 48–36 in the other pool game.
In Pool 1, South Africa made the day’s biggest statement with a 104–25 demolition of Tanzania. Hosts Malawi and Botswana are also in that group.
The men’s championship also began, with South Africa easing past Botswana 59–38 to underline their early intentions.
