Uganda’s teenage table tennis duo, Joseph Sebatindira and Jemima Nakawala, have lit up the 4th African Youth Games in Angola, storming into the semifinals and energizing Uganda’s medal hopes.

Sebatindira has been the driving force of Uganda’s campaign. He opened with a confident 3–1 win over Mauritius’ Descann Niki on December 10, then followed it with a sharper 3–0 sweep against Benin’s Fenou Oneill the next day to top Group A with four points.

In the knockouts, he kept the momentum. He eased past Burundi’s Dusabe 3–0 in the round of 16 and then battled to a spirited 4–2 victory over Chad’s Putola Tidiane in the quarterfinals.

His reward is a semifinal showdown with Tunisia’s Yousef Aidli on December 12.

Nakawala’s journey has been unusual but impressive. Walkovers against opponents from Chad and Tanzania meant she only entered action in the quarterfinals but she arrived ready.

She dominated Rwanda’s Diane Uwase 4–0, showing sharp focus despite limited match time. She now faces a difficult Egyptian opponent in the semifinals.

With both players stepping onto the tables for their biggest matches yet, Uganda’s hopes rest firmly on their shoulders.

Sebatindira’s rise and Nakawala’s composure have already made a statement in Luanda, and a medal for either now feels well within reach.

Upcoming Matches – December 12, 2025

  • Joseph Sebatindira Vs Yousef Aidli (Tunisia) – Semifinal
  • Jemima Nakawala Vs Egypt – Semifinal
