New Express FC head coach and last season’s domestic double winner and current Express FC coach Alex Isabirye Musongola is our star ⭐️ of the day.
Isabirye started playing football as a pupil at Iganga Boys’ PS, briefly training with Walukuba FC, where he was the school and district team captain.
From there, coach Polly Ouma who was the manager of Uganda Cranes and its junior side, the Kobs, took Isabirye to Nile FC.
At Nile, he grew into one of the best strikers and was part of the historical Kobs squad that finished fourth at the 1999 All-Africa Games in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He would later play for Umeme, Express FC , Scoul, and SC Villa.
During the 2001 Cecafa Kagame Cup, Isabirye finished the tournament as the top scorer.

The same year, Isabirye got a deal in Bangladesh, where he spent two years.
He came back and player for a few Clubs before retiring at URA FC, to take up coaching in 2010.
Isabirye was part of SC Villa’s last title winning squad and the Jogoo fans nicknamed him “Trezeguet” in reference to the then deadly France striker.
Still, as a player, he helped URA win the 2008/09 league title before guiding them, as a young coach, to the 2010/11 title.
Isabirye also won the Uganda Cup with URA and had a brilliant team which was marshaled by captain Manko Kawesa.
He also had Moses Feni, Steven Bengo, Dan Wagaluka, Diego Hamis Kizza, Robert Sentongo, Simeone Masaba and Sam Mubiru in his ranks, a perfect blend of youth and experience.
On a low note, his early retirement from the game was due to a niggling knee injury.
This cut the striker’s dream of following in the footsteps of his brothers; the legendary Steven Bogere, and Frank Lukomwa who played with distinction for top clubs and the national team.
In his coaching career, Isabirye has won the domestic double with Vipers SC, a league title with URA, and two more Uganda Cups with URA and BUL FC.
He has also coached SC Victoria University, Kirinya Jinja SS, Masavu, Nyamitobora and Horseed FC of Somalia.
This means more!
