It was a day to forget for Uganda’s men at the ongoing Ultimate African Pool Championship, as several of the country’s top players crashed out of the singles event earlier than expected.
Top seed Caesar Chandiga, one of Africa’s most respected cueists, suffered a shock 7–6 defeat to South Africa’s Yacoob Shaik.
Chandiga, already fighting to stay alive after his first-life exit on Wednesday, never found his rhythm and handed Shaik a few easy chances that proved decisive.
With Chandiga gone, attention shifted to Ibrahim Sejjemba, who had impressed earlier in the day by eliminating compatriot Rashid Wagaba 7–3 in an all-Ugandan Round of 32 clash.
Facing South Africa’s Aden Carl Joseph in the quarters, Sejjemba looked on course for victory with a 4–1 lead but faltered late as Aden rallied to win 7–5, leaving Uganda’s bench stunned.
There was more heartbreak when Ibrahim Kayanja fell 7–6 to Taufeeq Murray, a 17-year-old South African prodigy who showed incredible composure under pressure.
Kayanja’s narrow loss left Azali Lukomwa as Uganda’s only remaining hope in the men’s draw, where he now faces Thami Jabavu in life two.
While the men struggled, Uganda’s women delivered a masterclass, storming into an all-Ugandan semifinal lineup.
Team captain Amina Faith Nganda leads the charge and will face Jacinta Kajubi, who stunned former national champion Ritah Nimusiima with a ruthless 7–0 whitewash.
Rukia Naiga matched that score, dismantling Namibia’s Jeanine Kloppers, while Marion Kisakye eased past Juliet Namuhanga 7–3.

In life two, more Ugandan showdowns await, with Naiga meeting Mutesi in one semifinal, while the winner between Nganda and Kisakye could face either Prudence Nkosi or Yolindi “Lallie” Klue of South Africa in the next round.
For Uganda’s men, Thursday brought lessons and frustration. But for the women, it was a statement, one that underlined their growing dominance and hinted at a golden future for Ugandan pool.
