- Uganda W won by 10 wickets
Uganda’s rising bowling star Kevin Amuge stole the spotlight as the Victoria Pearls recorded their third straight win at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, dispatching Sierra Leone by 10 wickets in a dominant display at the Gahanga B Oval on Friday.
Playing in her maiden tournament for the national side, Amuge delivered a career-defining performance, claiming a sensational five-wicket haul to dismantle Sierra Leone’s batting line-up.
Uganda had earlier won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that paid immediate dividends.
Adhering strictly to the team’s bowling strategy of maintaining stump-to-stump discipline, Amuge tore through the opposition with figures of 4 overs, 5 wickets for just 19 runs, supported by six dot balls.
Her effort earned her the Player of the Match award and drew praise from teammates and fans alike.
“Today we were playing against Sierra Leone. I’m a bowler in the team and it’s my first tournament playing for Uganda,” an elated Amuge said post-match.
“I’m very happy that we stuck to our team strategy of bowling stump to stump. My aim was to deliver dot balls and the wickets came as a bonus. When you stick to the team’s plans, everything works out.”
Sierra Leone could never recover from the relentless assault, collapsing for just 32 runs in 11.1 overs. Only Hussainatu Sawanneh (8 not out) and Aisha K Bangura (7) offered any resistance.
Uganda’s bowling attack was clinical all around, Sarah Akiteng chipped in with 3 wickets, while Tino Sarah grabbed one, with the fielding unit backing them up with sharp efforts.
In reply, Uganda chased down the modest target in just 4.5 overs without losing a wicket. Captain Janet Mbabazi led from the front with an unbeaten 19 off 19 balls, while Esther Iloku contributed a brisk 12 from 10 deliveries.
The resounding victory cements Uganda’s strong position in the tournament and keeps momentum firmly on their side as they prepare to face Brazil tomorrow (Saturday, June 7) at the Gahanga Main Oval with action set to start at 10:30 AM EAT.
