Monday, 15th May 2023 will forever be a historical day for Amus College as the day they won their first-ever National Girls’ football title.
Amus hurtfully beat the defending champions St. Noa Zana 1-0 to clinch the title for the first time in history.
Opisa Shayline scored a beautiful and decisive goal from a well-taken free kick outside the edge of the box in the last minute of the game to send the fans wild.
The Frank Anyau-coached side was looked at as underdogs until they eliminated giants Kawempe Muslim in the quarter-finals.
They went on to beat Mukono Parents 4-2 on penalties in the semifinals to reach their dream finals, people believed that they can make it to win the trophy.
This is the second time in three years St. Noa has lost in the finals after losing 5-4 on penalties against Kawempe Muslim in 2019.
Last year, St.Noa revenged when they beat Kawempe Muslim 1-0 in the finals to lift the trophy and went on to win the FEASSA in Tanzania.
In the same tournament, Kawempe Muslim dynamic forward Hadijah Nandago won the golden boot after scoring 16 goals.
Meanwhile, Rines SS beat Mukono Parents 2-0 in the 3rd playoff game earlier before the finals.
Winners Amus College, St.Noa, Rines SS, and Mukono Parents will represent Uganda in the FEASSA games later this year in Rwanda.
