The Gazelles have received a timely boost ahead of their quarterfinal game at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, captain Jane Asinde shaking off the bruises sustained in game against Senegal on Monday.

Asinde suffered a bruised elbow, bruised knee, bleeding toenail, and even lost a fingernail during the game in Abidjan. Her social media post after the session struck an optimistic tone:

“Bruised elbow and knee. Bleeding toenail and lost a fingernail. Like isn’t GOD Good.”

Though the knocks raised early concern, a source close to the team confirmed she is recovering well and should be ready for Thursday’s clash against either Egypt or South Sudan.

Her return is crucial. Asinde led from the front in Uganda’s dramatic 73–70 overtime win over Senegal on Monday, finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists, earning Player of the Game honors. That win followed a dominant 88–51 performance against Guinea.

With back-to-back victories, Uganda now awaits the winner between Egypt and South Sudan. No matter the opponent, Asinde’s expected return gives the Gazelles the lift they need heading into the knockout stage.
