Uganda’s athletics coaches will gather on April 10 for a landmark forum that blends discussion with decision-making, as they elect their leaders for the first time.

The one-day National Athletics Coaches’ Forum, organized by Uganda Athletics, will take place at Mandela National Stadium from 8:00am to 3:30pm.

The main focus will be the formation of a Coaches’ Association. Coaches will discuss its structure before voting for leaders, including male and female representatives, in a move aimed at giving them a stronger voice in the sport.

Beyond the elections, the forum will address key issues in athletics development. Sessions will include a briefing on safeguarding, reminding coaches of their responsibility to protect and guide athletes, as well as a refresher on their role in athlete growth.

Coaches will also be introduced to a proposed licensing system intended to raise standards and bring more structure to the profession.

The day will include practical training in data collection and athlete information management, reflecting the growing role of data in modern sport.
