Athletics Uganda has held a successful annual general assembly, which resulted in the announcement of March 28 as the date for the elective General Assembly elections for the 2026 to 2030 term.
The AGM also appointed Kenneth Kitariko as the returning officer and, with immediate effect, announced the electoral roadmap open, inviting interested members to express their interest in running for the elections.
Speaking to the media at the AGM, current President Dominic Otucet confirmed his intention to stand again for the Federation’s presidency. “Indeed I have done well. I am not aiming to blow my own trumpet, but I am here to communicate that I want to stand again.”
Otucet took over in 2009, replacing Daniel Tumwesigire, and to date, he is one of the longest-serving sports body leaders in Uganda.
In the same communication, Otucet expressed his readiness to compete with anyone interested in the Athletics Uganda top seat. “This is not a personal office; it is open to all Ugandans in the sport of athletics. Therefore, I am ready to stand against anyone who will show interest.”
The elections will aim to fill all executive committee member positions with people in the sport of athletics who possess the qualifications as per the Athletics Uganda Constitution.
