Having started the Athletics Uganda National calendar of Track and Field with two events already held at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Starting with the extra distance event held two weeks ago, on Saturday, March 14th, the federation successfully held the first of the seven annual trials.
Speaking at the conclusion of the event, Athletics Uganda Publicity Secretary Abdallah Muhammed elaborated on their program this year,
“Annually, we hold these national trials, and for 2026, the first is this one. We always have them here at Namboole every two weeks, and we are looking forward to having the second one in two weeks’ time, but if the renovation of Namboole starts as the indications show, then we will have the remaining trials at Hoima City Stadium.
We do these trials to help our athletes get ready for many major events at the international stage, and the major focus this year is on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, while there will be many other major events for our athletes to take part in,” he added.
During the trials, athletes demonstrated readiness, with big names in short distances like Harold Adoli, Godfrey Chen Wengo, Shida Leni, and many others most likely in shape, while young stars like Thomas Cheptoyek also posted a good performance.
